Cafes are becoming a trend again. People have been gathering at cafes for quite some time now, especially post lockdown. From studying, to working, to gathering with friends, people need a place where they can enjoy their coffee and food in a comfortable environment.

Other trends are “breakfast all day”, artisan bread, and avocado.

Other trends include “famous” lattes or iced drinks which are drink specials based around the cafe’s most iconic drinks for that week such as iced coffee or iced frappuccinos. Matcha has also become very popular.

Read on to find out more about these trends!

1.  Breakfast all day

It is not uncommon for cafes to serve breakfast all day long and most customers are quite excited about this prospect. In fact, the trend is spreading across various parts of Australia.

People are embracing it because they can eat their favourite breakfast dish at any time of the day. This gives them a sense of security and saves them from having to worry about their meal time.

2. Artisan bread

Artisan bread is trending in cafes and restaurants. It has a variety of flavours and types to choose from such as whole wheat, rye, sourdough, or multigrain.

Those who want to eat healthier food choices look for artisan bread in cafes and bakeries. Artisan bread dough is produced by cafe suppliers like Suprima Bakeries so cafe owners have a viable option. It is cost efficient, hassle free, and delicious. It can be stored for a longer period of time as well.

3. Avocado everywhere

Avocados are one of the most versatile ingredients in cooking. They can be used fresh and smooth or with a crunchy texture. Avocado is a flavour-neutral fruit so it takes on the flavours of what it is cooked with, making it perfect for all sorts of dishes.

In 2018, avocados have been popularised in new and different ways outside their traditional home as a sandwich spread or taco topping. The popularity has led to new avocado-based foods popping up at restaurants across Australia and around the world.

4. Iced drinks

Iced drinks are a relatively new phenomenon in the world of food. This is because traditionally, iced drinks were served only in hot climates due to the need to provide an alternative option to people who preferred their drinks cold.

With a wide range of cold beverages now available, iced drinks have become trendy especially during the summer months when they provide a refreshing and flavorful beverage.

Iced drinks can be brewed like regular coffee with the exception that they are prepared with ice instead of hot water, or they can be non-coffee based beverages such as fruit juice or lemonade. In addition, there are also specialty iced coffee cocktails which have become popular as well, such as an iced latte or an iced mocha frappe.

5. Matcha

Matcha is a powdered green tea that is steeped in hot water to produce tea. The leaves are grown, harvested and steamed before being ground up into a bright green powder.

Matcha is popular in Japan where it has been consumed for centuries. It has only recently started to become popular around the world due to the health benefits it provides.

In Japan, matcha is traditionally served after meals as a digestive aid and during times of great celebration. It’s also used as an ingredient in many recipes, like traditional desserts and savoury dishes like tempura or sushi rice bowls.

Now, however, we see matcha everywhere! There’s matcha latte, matcha doughnuts, matcha cheesecakes, and more!
